Another picture perfect day in Provence. And if you want to celebrate your birthday in style, as did our beautiful Adrienne, then this is how it’s done.
Start the day at a leisurely pace with a little sleep in and breakfast of fresh fruit, yogurt, croissants and of course Champagne. And as Camille suggests ‘Don’t stop!’ Be sure to fit in a short drive through the lush countryside of the Luberon in the South of France, with the destination being the fabulous Chateau La Coste; a place where attention to detail and aesthetics is practised religiously and the experience is like visiting a giant art installation.
Nestled amongst the 500 acre bio-dynamic vineyards in the rolling hills north of Aix-en-Provence, Chateau La Coste offers walking trails through modern sculpture gardens, art and architectural displays, wine tasting, dining in one of three restaurants and even a super luxury hotel. We indulged in a guided tour of the sculpture gardens before settling down to a sensational lunch at one of the restaurants beside a feature pond.
On our return journey, some of the ladies revealed true depth of experience with the foresight to purchase pre-paid international postage boxes at a brief stop at la poste in Lourmarin before arriving back at our chateau. A quick dip and some relaxing by the pool led up to the next celebratory activity … wine tasting! Our hosts at Chateau Constantin have proved that not only can they offer their magnificent home but they also have a wide range of delicious wines produced at the chateau.
The day wouldn’t be complete without a birthday party, and the beautiful Christel invited us into her home where she prepared a birthday feast including duck and, of course, birthday cake. A fun and memorable night for our group of honky tonk women who are all thoroughly ready for a good night’s sleep.
